Photo Details
Driven to a Bonneville Land Speed record by Car and Driver's Don Sherman, this RX-7 shattered the existing record by over 37 MPH. This photo was taken on the salt flats after the car had set a new record of 238.442 MPH, besting the old record of 201.241 MPH by a wide margin. This is currently owned by Mazda and was returned to Racing Beat in 2006 for a engine overhaul visit. This car has been shown in recent years at the annual Sevenstock rotary events held at Mazda's US headquarters in California.

Jim Mederer, Racing Beat's chief engineering and fabricator, has continued to spearhead the development of many championship "rotary" efforts over the years.
