StopTech Slotted Brake Rotors -1994-2002 Miata - except Sport Package
(Priced and sold as left/right rear sets)
All 1994-00 Miatas are equipped with standard/normal (10.0" front/9.9" rear) disc brakes. For the 2001-2002 model year, Mazda offered a larger sport/hard suspension brake package (10.6" front/10.9" rear) on models with factory installed 16"wheels (included on cars with the Sport Suspension package). The larger brake package became standard on all 2003-05 Miatas. If you question the size of the brakes on your car, we suggest you measure the diameter of the disc for reference.
StopTech Brake Rotors
Heat is the primary cause of ineffective or reduced braking performance due to fade. There is actually a boundary layer of gases that builds up between the pad and rotor surface, which inhibits performance. Here's where StopTech rotors make a big difference. The exclusive Vac-U-Slots machined into the rotor wipes brake pads clean, evacuates gases, and sheds heat. A combination of a high performance pad and StopTech Miata brake rotors will provide superior reliable braking for your Miata, with an upgrade to larger diameter rotors and bigger calipers typically only needed for the most severe competition applications.
StopTech Miata brake rotors are manufactured to the highest tolerances keeping safety and quality their number one priority. Slotting, unlike drilling, doesn't compromise the structural integrity of the rotor. When you drill a rotor you weaken it and cause stress points that can lead to cracking and ultimately failure. Also, drilled rotors lose considerable surface area compared to slotted rotors, which means less active braking area for pad to rotor contact.
StopTech's Miata brake rotors are made using the highest quality Original Equipment replacement blanks. Competitors will sacrifice quality by using inexpensive off-shore castings. Typically these are made of inferior porous material and often have less cooling fins than their OE counterpart. These fins also serve to reinforce the rotor and guard against warpage. StopTech rotors always meet and/or exceed all OE specifications. It's also important to know that the exclusive Vac-U-Slot is tapered to enhance evacuation of heat and gases. All machining is done in house to StopTech's application specific tolerances to ensure optimum quality control.
StopTech Miata Sport Rotors are finished with black e-coating on both sides of the hat, inside the cooling vanes, and on the outside edge. E-coating is a superior electro-statically applied finish designed to withstand 400 hours of salt water exposure without rusting. This is especially important on both mounting faces of the hat where it touches the hub flange and back face of the wheel. Any accumulation of rust in these area can lead to installed lateral run out issues.
Racing Beat Application Notes:
For maximum braking performance we strongly recommend the use of a set of upgraded brake pads with this use of these rotors. Although OE or standard replacement pads can be used, noticeable braking improvement will be immediately noticed after the installation of a performance pad set.
