StopTech Drilled and Slotted Sport Brake Rotors - 2001-05 Miata - Rear Set (Sport Suspension Package / MazdaSpeed models with 10.6" front discs.*)
(Priced and sold as left/right sets)
All 1994-00 Miatas are equipped with standard (10.0" front/9.9" rear) disc brakes. For the 2001-2002 model years, Mazda offered a larger brake package (10.6" front/10.9" rear) on models with factory installed 16"wheels (included on cars with the Sport Suspension package). The larger brake package became standard on all 2003-05 Miatas. If you question the size of the brakes on your car, we suggest you measure the diameter of the disc for reference.
SportTech Brake Rotors
Heat is the primary cause of ineffective or reduced braking performance due to fade, especially when used under the extremes of performance applications. There is actually a boundary layer of gases that builds up between the pad and rotor surface, which inhibits performance. Here's where StopTech rotors can make a significant difference. The combination of cross-drilling and slotting the rotor wipes brake pads clean, evacuates gases, and sheds heat. A combination of a high performance pad and Stop Tech Miata brake rotors will provide superior reliable braking for your Miata, with an upgrade to larger diameter rotors and bigger calipers typically only needed for competition applications.
Nearly all StopTech 1-piece rotors have unique slot or hole patterns for the left and right sides of the vehicle. For these directional patterns, straight vane or pillar vane rotors are used to ensure that a drilled hole never touches a cooling vane.
StopTech Miata Sport Rotors are finished with black e-coating on both sides of the hat, inside the cooling vanes, and on the outside edge. E-coating is a superior electro-statically applied finish designed to withstand 400 hours of salt water exposure without rusting. This is especially important on both mounting faces of the hat where it touches the hub flange and back face of the wheel. Any accumulation of rust in these area can lead to installed lateral run out issues.
Racing Beat Application Notes:
For maximum braking performance we strongly recommend the use of a set of upgraded brake pads with this use of these rotors. Although OE or standard replacement pads can be used, noticeable braking improvement will be immediately noticed after the installation of a performance pad set.
