The EXEDY Complete Clutch Kit Stage 2 HD (Heavy Duty - Thick Disc)
The 1987-91 RX-7 Turbo II (EXEDY 10952AHD) is recommended for high performance street, autocross and racing applications where quick shifting response is required.
Exedy/Daikin Clutch is one world's largest supplier of both stock OEM and performance aftermarket clutch components. This complete Exedy Stage 2 HD clutch kit for the RX-7 Turbo II includes a 3-puck sprung-hub, cerametallic compound disc (240mm OD), stronger pressure plate as compared with the standard Stage 2 kit, replacement throw out bearing, pilot bearing, and a clutch installation alignment tool.
Thick Disc
The S-Metal 3-Puck HD Clutch Disc utilizes a low gravity, T5001 Carborich cerametallic disc and features “thick” discs (as compared with the thinner disc offered in the 10952A kit), offering better heat capacity and therefore better durability in demanding applications. Even with the “thick” disc, Exedy three and four puck designs typically have less inertia than a stock disc and work well for street, rally and track use.
Cushion Button Disc
The remarkable Cushion Button Disc combines cerametallic button facing with marcel cushion springs to maintain comfortable driving while supporting a respectable amount of power. It’s smooth engagement is ideal for the street, and thanks to its heavy duty sprung hub dampening assembly, can handle the power of high torque motors.
Torque Specs (ft/lbs):
Clutch torque: 564
Torque at flywheel: 450
Torque at wheels: 360
Clamping Load (lbs): 2360
Stage I & II clutch kits have a 10-30% higher pedal effort due to the higher pressure place clampin load.
Racing Beat Note: This is a GREAT kit at a super price! If you're considering replacing your RX-7 clutch to include the optional Transmission Seal Kit 1987-88 or 1989-91 as part of your replacement package.
Packaged only as a set, these components are not available separately. Photo shown may not be specific to this application.
Exedy Application Guide
Racing Beat offers different clutch packages for the 1987-91 Turbo II, each intended for a specific application. Use this reference guide to determine the package that best meets your requirements:
Exedy Stage 1 - This is the preferred clutch for street and light horsepower track use. Driveability is similar to the stock clutch with smooth engagement characteristics. Pedal efforts will be slightly higher due to the approx 25% higher clamp loads. The clutch disc is equipped with spring center dampers to reduce drivetrain shock.
Exedy Stage 1 HD – The Heavy Duty (HD) clutch package features the exact same disc as the Stage 1 package, but this kit is equipped with a more aggressive pressure plate for use with higher horsepower applications. This pressure plate offers higher clamping forces and pedal efforts will be greater due to the approx. 40% higher clamping loads as compared with the stock pressure plate. The clutch disc is equipped with spring center dampers to reduce drivetrain shock.
Exedy Stage 2 RX-7 Turbo II – This kit features a low-inertia cerametallic disc with a sprung hub center for use on high performance applications. These components are intended to handle the abuse of higher-powered modified engines and can typically handle more abuse than stock-type disc assemblies without slipping and fading. The sprung hub center offers ease of engagement vibrations at idle and during acceleration/deceleration. Clutch engagement is very abrupt and best suited for use in racing and high performance driving applications – not recommended for street use.
Exedy Stage 2 HD RX-7 Turbo II – The Heavy Duty (HD) clutch package features a thicker version of the clutch disc as compared with the Stage 2 (thin disc) package, and is equipped with an aggressive pressure plate for use with higher horsepower applications. This pressure plate offers higher clamping forces and pedal efforts will be greater. The sprung hub center offers ease of engagement vibrations at idle and during acceleration/deceleration. Clutch engagement is very abrupt and best suited for use in racing and high performance driving applications – not recommended for street use.
